I am taking a break from costume work for a while - I will not be taking on any new projects for the foreseeable future.
In the run up to Christmas I worked on two productions for The Leys school, in Cambridge.
The first production was 'The Wonderful World of Dissocia', which follows a woman named Lisa as she deals with her dissociative disorder. The play is set almost entirely within Lisa's mind, where she encounters an array of eccentric characters of her own making. You can see more here. The second project I worked on was an all-singing, all-dancing spectacular - Chicago! For this production we needed the traditional twenties style with a bold, stylised modern twist. You can see more photos here. Do not fear, I am here! Oh my, what a busy year I have had. I have worked on several productions since my last blog post and will be updating the website with more details in the coming month.
I have spent the first half of 2013 beavering away on not one, but two theatrical productions!
The first was 'The Last Laugh', for the The Leys School (pictured above). You can learn more in the portfolio section here. Alongside this, I also worked on an staged production of Carl Orff's 'Carmina Burana' for Anglia Ruskin University (of which I am an alumni). You can see more images of this production here. For the last three months I have been working as costume designer for a Christmas production of 'Into The Woods' for The Leys school in Cambridge.
It has been an interesting and rewarding test of my skills and resources, resulting in a costume style I unofficially titled "Tim Burton goes to a building site!" For more images please view the portfolio page here. The photos are here!
As part of my 'Napoleon' project I visited Downing College with photographer Ann Evelin Lawford, where she took a series of 35mm photographs. The result is an enigmatic glimpse at the moments that made Napoleon's life. Suffice to say I am very pleased with the results. You can view the pictures here. To see more of Evelin's work you can visit her website. Last autumn I worked as a costume assistant for a feature film titled 'Private Peaceful', which was filmed around my home county of Suffolk.
'Private Peaceful' is now complete and due for release Oct 2012. You can view a review here. My final major project has been featured in a profile at The Trend Boutique.
I have recently completed my final major degree project - a selection of costume designed around an unfinished script by Stanley Kubrick concerning the rise and fall of Napoleon Bonaparte. I am very proud to present this short showcase video, shot in the grounds of Downing College, Cambridge. Many thanks to every one involved! You can view more images here in the portfolio section. I am taking part in the Cambridge School of Art Degree Show 2012 'New Dynamics', displaying work from my 'Napoleon' and 'The Tempest' projects.
